NEWS FROM MASTERTON.

MORE EVIDENCES OF PROSPERITY. (Tho "Evening Post's" Correspondent.) Masterton, November 30. A petition in bankruptcy was filed yesterday by William Pauling, tailor, of this town. During the present month three petitions in bankruptcy havo been filed at the D.O.A.'s office here, while for the samo month of 1910 there wero no bankruplcies. For the period of eleven mouths ending to-day there havo been 17 petitions filed, compared with 20 for tho same period of last year. Notwithstanding this, the Prohibitionists advertise that No-Licenso promotes commercial prosperity! Tho total liabilities of tho Masterton bankriipteies-28 in 1908, <£H,325 7s. Gd.j 27 in 1909, JCII.GG9 13s. 10d.; 21 in 1910, ,£9922 os. lOd. The figures, taken from a Prohibition advertisement, show that the men who owed most came to bankruptcy first, and the smaller men with mora credit were able to hang out the longer; but they, too, succumbed, whilo others are, also coming to grief. The truth is, the record of No-License in Masterton, as elsewhere, is strewn with the bleached bones of the business wrecks of tho Prohibition blight—No-License. Therefore, ratepayers and business men, save Wellington from similar disaster by striking out the Botiom Line on each ballot paper. The following advertisement is appearing in tho local papers. It tells its own talo:NOTICE. mHE MISSES BAIN, of tho Dominion ■"• Restaurant, Masterton, desiro to return thanks to their Masterton patrons for their past support, and regret, on account of tho depression and loss of business caused by tho carrying of NoLicenso in Masterton, they havo been forced to close down their business in Queen Street, which will no longor bo open to the public from this date. Dated this 24th day of November, 1911.
