THIHD CONCERT. Tho Wellington LiedorUfel's third concert of the present season, given nt tho Sydnev Street Schoolroom last evening, was verv Veil attended, and in several respects was iinito the best of the series. Tho choir, though not strong immericallv, was nicely balanced, while tho quality •of tone was such that, the part songs,' of which there were eight, were n pleasure lo listen to. Ily far (he best concerted item of the programme was Mendelssohn's "Hunter's farewell, in the singing of which the choir reached a very high degree of artistic excellence. Malliii-cn's whimsical part song "lieware," the "Italian Salad" (Genoc), an amusing skit, fur tenor and chorus, on the grind ilnalo of tins conventional Italian opera, and a rousing choral march "Hark, the Merry Drum" (Kriigh), also stood out from tho other items of tho ~„..;,„. f (ir {),,, „, c i-it of their performance!. Tho tenor solo in the "Italian Salad" was very well sung by Mr. James Soavlo, whose siuging method has undergone apurcciable improvement of late. I hi' other concerted items included Hoflinnnn,s "Springtime," Cobb s 'If Doughty Deeds/ 1 an inspiriling "Hynin Beloro Action" OVnilord D.ivies), aiul jliilrona old English part song "Stars of tho Summer Night." Owing to the unexpected absence of Mr. J. JJowman, wlm was to have sung the teuor solo in the Sc in belt Liszt chorus "Great is Jehovah, that verv line number had to be dropped. The Licdortnfel was assisted by Mrs. I'' 0 Wilson . (soprano), .Miss Nellie Simpson (flautist), Mr. Hugh Wright (baritone), Mr. Eric. Waters (pianist), and Mr 1\ J- Iton' (tenor). Mrs. Wilson's items included the delightful Slinky "Over Hill, Over Dale" (Cooke), Owen's "Tho Violet," and one ol T.in. Ulirnann's bird songs., '"J ho Wood Pigeon." Of these, distinctly the best was tho Shakespearean song, which Mrs. Wilson sang excellently. Miss Simpson eonlribuW an attractive "\ nlse Impromptu" (Sabathil), adding, as an emx.ro number, Saint Haens's beautiful idyll Lo Cygne." Mr. H.ukli Wrighl, by special request, fang; Klfiar's line s™g ' lno IHpss of Pan," a good item, well sung. M (he piano, Mr. Erie. C.nrr, who was in excellent voice, contributed a brnckch Sydney Homer's beautiful "Heqmcnv I-iles Kpitnme" (Kenneth llae), and added ilnwlry's "Sweetest Flower ten! t.iv"vs ns an encore number. Mr. liobirl Pnrb'r conducted thn choir m the ccncovtcd items. ,
