FAMILY MURDERED.

Police Court proceedings liiivo commenced at Mackay against George Silva, (ho Cingalese, who is cliargnd with (he murder, near Alligator Greek, of Agnes Llmig (Ibo lvliito -n-ife of a Chinese farmer), and her five children. Accused was employed on Ching's farm. Thci arresting constable detailed a. conversation ho had had trith 'bo prisoner, who said that when Ching left home, ho was shooting a bawk with Ching's gun, and that bo afterwards went to sleep near (ho railway. Hfl met Ching returning, and told him bo had not soon the family. After tlio bodies of the victims had been discovered, prisoner said, he went to inform the police, and carried the clothes ho had been wearing during the day in a parcel, but. as the parcel was galling his knee he threw it. away. Witness said: "You're foolinp. Tou know who murdered the family." Accused replied: "God knows, f.hey wore good to me. I never murdered them." "When the bodies of the two missing children wore found, prisoner broke down, and . cried. Tracks near where the two children wero found were compared with prisoner's boots.
Another police witness declared that prisoner admitted burning the clothes ho bad been wearing on the day of the murder. Witness found in remains of the fire a. portion of the clothing, a gold watch, razor, and a medicine bottle- which prisoner claimed. Prisoner told witness that ho and a neighbouring Hindoo farmer named Doolcy Khan and a whito Ulan had conspired to murder the family a fow Sundays before. Ho added: "Doolcy Khan shot the- mpther and killed the baby besido her. I shot Maudio and Hughie. When Eddio and Dolly returned from school, I told thorn their mother and tho othor children wero waiting for them in tho back paddock. We went there together. Doolcy Khan was waiting thero with a pea-rifle, and shot them. Khan wanted to marry May Ching and get tho farm. I wanted Maudio, but tho mother objected. Prisoner admitted that he used a revolver and shot Maudio and Hughio. After searching' tho cane paddock witness found the weapon.
