OVER-CHARGING.
A CAUTION TO CARRIERS. Its By-laws Committee reported to the City Council last eveniug that it had dealt with a case of serious over-charging by an expressman. Tho offender bad been severely cautioned and made to refund the amount over-charged. The chairman of tho committee (Councillor Trevor) stated that tho victims of the over-charging mentioned were (ho members of an Auckland choir which' visited the Wellington competitions. For carting 40 packages of luggage from Thorndon Station to Cuba Street an expressman levied a charge of .£2. Tho legal charge was lis. 3d. Another carrier took the Fame load back to the station for 10s. In making tho first carrier refund 3fls., tho. committee had warned him that he had narrowly escaped having his license confiscated. Councillor Shirtcliffe said that carriers should be made to understand that action would bo taken in any future case of the kind.
