LATE TOURIST SEASON.

It was stated that so far Iho'.scuson had bren dull, but a few tourists from overseas-wore beginning to come now. The bad weather that has beon experienced throughout the Dominion wns Tield to bn largely responsible for the shrinkojro in the tourist traffic of the earlier part uf Urn summer. There have bten instances within tho last month of people who caino out with tho full intention of visiting all tho interesting parts of the • country, but have since returned Home, mainly on account of the bad weather which they had boon unfortunate enough fo experience in the few places which they did visit. This year's summer has been extraordin-w-ily unseasonable. Owing to the cold snap early la.st week, hailstones as big as berries fell in some of the up-country towns, and snow fell at Ohakune anil other elevated points on the central section of the Main Trunk railwav. These are hardly the conditions to tempt the.tourist, who invariable nrrives with a, cork helmet and a green-lined umbrella, exnecting the glories of a South S'ea Island summer.
