In additiou lo this ill , . C. Hickmotl. sang an adaptation of Kudyard Kipling's Boor war fund verses, "Pay, Pay, Pay," during which the nurses held au outsize ui J'ed Cross flags for the receipt of. aeroplaning coins, of which a gooilly store was collected. It was with tatibfaction that the largo audienco heard Dr. Izard .innoiince tiiat the Orphans' Club's effort would produce an amount in the vicinity of £250— a very handsome sum indeed. The programme, which long-aud varied, I was of the popular order. The club's orchestra, um]er Mr. M'Comisli, played the. overture "Light Cavalry" very well, considering its strength, and tho essential instruments that were missing. Mr. W. Goiidio s.iug Sergeant's "Blow, Blow, Thou "Winter Wind," a difficult, song, thnt was a little too much for the singer's capacity. Mr. A. Hillyer, in a cliattily lmmorous talk,, ventured into tho mysteries of post-impressionism in art, with the aid of chalk and paper, creating much entertainment. That prettv ballad "love Coiild J Only Tell Thee," from "Tho Geisha," was nicely sung by Mr. H. N. * (etcher, who was in good voice. Mr. C. Girdlertone dug up those aged impersonations that will over bo associated wit.li '/The Charge of the Light Brigade." His mutations of the child and the man with trie cork arm were distinctly clever i^rSv 11 .", 1401 ' and . Blanillord sang the duet Watchman, whatof theNi»ht?" Dr Izard discanted on the whimsicalities of children. Mr. J T. Can , was heard to advantage in tho old English ballad "TiV 5 -/ 'Sweet and Kind" and The Pride ■of lullarney." A musical monologue was contributed by Mr F Blamlfowl Jlr. Hutton sang a ballad,"and' Mr. .B. Garuner whistled cleverly. Mr Lowley Kobert-wi, whoso doubTc-voieed' sketch, '1 ho Miller and the Maid,".one never tires of, aroused enthusiasm once more, and ho had to append a Jivelv e-c----cerpt from-"The French. Maid."' Mr G \Varrcn was a good den! too dramatic in the monologue "Devil May Care." V humorous quartet was sung by Messrs. Fletcher, Hutton, Liptrott, and Blandforcl It was with pleasure that St. Mary ot the Angels' Choir was heard once niore in the numbers selected as tho tests in the recent competitions. These were the hymn "Eternal Father, Strong to Save," the anthem "Thanks Be to God" and- the Soldiers' Chorus' from • "Faust." In all three numbers the choir produced a good tone, and-their singing was marked" by good expression and splendid enunciation. At the conclusion of-the Soldiers' Chorus a,n encpro was demanded, but owing to the length of- the programme it could not be given. Mr. E. Healy deserves credit for the admirable control he exerts, over the choir as evidenced in the numbers snug last evening. During the evening the Rev. W. A. Evans, chairnian of the Hospital" anil Charitable Aid Board, took occasion to thank the Orphans' Club and those present for assisting in the raising of funds for the provision of a more amply-equipped hospital than we have at present.
