PELOIUJS SOUNDS EXCURSION. In view of the success which attended the Mokoia's excursion from Wellington to Pclorus. Sound last year, it is intended to dispatch tho vessel on a pecond excursion at the New Year, 1912. The routa to he followed on this occasion, however, will differ to eomo extent from that followed last year, and will give excursionists a better opportunity of exploring the Sounds than was then afforded them. . . The proposal is to dispatch the Mokoia from Wellington at noon on Saturday, December 30, direct for D'Urville Island, where calls will be made at Port Hardy and Greville Harbour (the latter at the discretion of the master), and opportunities will be afforded excursionists of exploring the beauties ct those places, and also of indulging in deep-fiea fishing—a sport for which this vicinity is famone. From Port Hardy the Mokoia will proceed to Pclorus Sound, and her subsequent programme will allow of a full exploration of the Sound, and the innumerable beauty spots which aro contained within its coasUino of over 300 miles. The Mokoia will leave on her return passage to Wellington on Tuesday, January 2, and is due back at Welington oe tho same In addition to an efficient orchestra, the vessel will carry extra officers, and also a hairdresser. She will also bo provided with launches for the purpose of I towing the boats containing landing parties, and for lishin j. purposes.' The faro from Wellington, covering an excursion from Saturday till Tuesday evening, will be £3 101., the accommodation of tho vesfd, fore and aft, being reserved exclusively for ealoon paesongcrs. Excursionists booking at other ports will require to pay, in addition to tho Mokoii s fare, the cost of the journey between their home port and Wellington. No extra charge will bo made for. the. occupation of deck cabins, except in the case of married couples desiring the . exclusive use of a cabin, when half-fare for each unoccupied berth must bo paid.

On Monday the steamer Gertie will he placed on the Patent Slip for inspection. She will be followed by the Patecna and Ngahcre. liyllolton is to be the final port of departure for the Sha,w-Sa.vill steamer Pakeha, which sails for London on December 28. Tho vessel arrived at Wellington yesterday for coal, and leaves attain to-morrow for Napier, Gisborne, Auckland, Bluff, Port Chalmers, and Timarn, at which ports wool and general cargo will bo loaded. Yesterday afternoon the Himitangi left Wellington for Westport, where she loads coal for Wanganiu. Prom Wnnganui the vessel comes to Wellington, and is to leave here for Chatham lelands, via Lyttelton, on November 30. Mr. E. Law, second engineer of. tho Miraroa, left the vessel at Wellington, and his place was taken by Mr. J. Townsend. Mr. W. Williams is now third officer of the Mararoa. •. .. Mr. A. Varian, second engineer of the Ilimitangi. came a-shore at Wellington yesterday. Mr. J. White, .third engineer of tho Arahura, also left the vessel here. Mr. C. Eobcrts, chief officer of the Moeraki, has come ashore on holiday leave, and Mr. Davis, second officer, is actingchief. Mr. V. G. Wobb, late actingchief ofpec-r of the Poherna, has joined the Moeraki as second officer. Mr. W. B. S.. Scaly, third engineer of tho Kotukii. is ashore at Wellington, and Jlr.. J. S. Millier has, joined, the vessel. ' iir: W. P. White has relieved' jlr. W. G. Stephen in.the position of third engineer of the Waitcniatn. Mapourika, s.s., arrived at Grcymouth from Wellington, via Westport, at-11 a.m. yesterday She left on the return trip at 1 p.m.. and is duo in port about 10 p.m. to-day. With a cargo of live stock the Putiki left Wanganui for Westport at 11 a.m. yesterday. Sho returns to Wanganui next week. Tho Moa arrived at Waneanui from Foxton on Thursday night. She "takes live stock to Grcymouth. ..-. ...... Word has been received in Wellington, to the effect that the schooner Clyde, which left Wellington for the Maoquarrie Islands, is two weeks overdue. Mr. Hatch, her owner, informed a "Southland Times reporter that no alarm need' bo felt, as tho vessel is well found and equipped, and had a greater distance to travel than other vessels previously ongaged in the Eervice.
