NEW AWARDINCREASE IN WAGES. .£39,000 PER ANNUM. Ds Teleeraph— Press Association—Copyrichl (Rec. November 21, D.55 p.m.) Melbourne, November 21. In the Federal Arbitration Court, Mr. Justice Higgins delivered judgment in tho ease- of the Federated Seamen's Union against the Commonwealth Steamship Owners' Association The award fixes the following rates;— Boatswains and A.B.'s, employed a» lamptrimmers, j£9 a month; A.B.'s, £8; ordinary Bcamen over 18, XG; under 18, £o; donkeymen, ,£11; greasers, .£10; trimmers, £7. Deck-hands are granted eight hours, but not-to operato till July; preference to unionists was refused, but without prejudice to any future applications. A number of concessions wero granted in regard to holidays and overtime. Tho award takes effect at the end of tho present year, and remains in operation for five years. Tho approximate increase- in wages granted under tho award is <£3!l,000 pelannum.
