ASSISTING ORCHA DISTS.
PRUNING AND SPRAYING. A number of owners of small orchards desirous of obtaining tlio services of men to prune and spray their fruit trees have complained to the Orchard Inspectors of .the AcricnUural '..Department that some men undertaking the work are jiot qualified. With a view to assisting both the competent workman and the small grower, the Agricultural Department lias author-' ised the Director of Orchards to arrange for examinations find issue certificates to those who can prove their competency. Following-are v the ' conditions under which the Department is prepared to conduet examinations, and issue certificates of competency:— A-'(l) Identifying insect and fungus pests. (2) Written or oral examination in tho life hiMory of pests and discuses, and the correct time at which to apply treatment. (3) Each candidate will bo required to give practical demonstrations of (he preparation and application of sprays, etc. ■ ■ D—At the proper. season examinations will be conducted in the theory and practice of pruning, -. . .
