His reason ior placing them in 11,0 sale in this condition was to show the producers that they lose pounds every year through not not sending all poultry in prime condition and young. Stags are birds that have been kept too long before marketing. Mr. Pounsford explained that chickens should bo sold not more than four to five mouths old. After that they are classed as stags, which each week' become of less value both in price and foi the table.
Ihe exhibit contained birds of all sizes and qualities. Mr. Pounsford gave a description of each bird, among which were six 'binls-llireo rejects and three prime birds that, hnd l«en bought at the' poultry sales. The rejects weighed seven pouiuls net, the prime ones 1911b The I "'mV 'Horace to the "breeder. Blip should have teen prosecuted for ottering such birds for sale; ttiey were unnt loj human consumption. The exhibit also contained fowls that were 'a credit to the breeder, and Mr. Pounsford wishes to congratulate them on tho splendid quality of the saM birds. E'f'jt Prime Buff Orpington pullets, weight 561b. net, proved the Orpington could be classed as ono of tho choicest breeds for the table Six Black Minorca pullets, weight 381b... showed that the Minorca have not lost their qualifications for the table. Two White Plymouth Kock pullets, weight 15lb. net, from Mr. iJannehr, were, choice. Mr. Pounsford states that those crossed with tho Leghorn makes a perfect bird, both for the table a,ud laying. Two Black Oritington pullets, weight Ulb., two White Orpingtons, weight 1331b.; both classes were extra good. Two Black Orpington cockerels, weight 131b., were of excellent shapo and quality. Two Silver Wyandotte chickens, months old, 12Ub., wcro choice, the skin being of a' rich colour. Four Leghorn chickens at ten weeks old. 101b., were very delicate. Mr. Pounsford
