FINED FOE DRUNKENNESS. (Bj- TclccraDh.—l'ress Association.! Christchurch, November 23. John M'Laehlan, of Ashburtou, J.P., and Government candidate tor Parliament, did not appftar, when his n&rno was called in the Police Court; this afternoon to answer a charge of drunkenness. Tho Magistrate (Mr. Bishop) inquired if tho offender was a justice of tho poaco? Sub-Inspector M'Urath replied in tho affirmative. His Worship commented on the impropriety of a man yielding to driuk when lie might havo to punish others for a similar oifencc. Tho accused did not appear (Laving been released). Ho was fined 10s., in default 48 hours' imprisonment.
