Sir,—ls it true, as reported, that the Prime Minister Has granted permission to tin! Government clerks,<efc., to act as poll clerks at the coming elections, with payment, for some in addition to their usual salary'i If so, it is unfair and unjust to the many unemployed. I and others have applied to the registration officers for .engagement, and hate been
advised that Hip positious are filled. Would you kindly say if (lie report is correct or not.—l am, elc., INKMPLOYED. [We understand tbc usual custom is boiiiS followed of employing as many experienced' men as is necessary. Many of these are Government clerics. As far as possible, we are informed, men out of employment who possess the necessary qualicatious aro taken ou. Care should cerlainly be exercised in the matter, but preference should bo to those out of work, where (he applicants are fitted for the duties.]
