GAOL DISCIPLINE.

A somovrbat unusual casn bearing 011 gaol discipline was beard to-<lav at tho Lj'ttclton Police Court, when a discharged prisoner, Charles Baker, was charged with having on November 22 convoyed money to u prisoner in the Lyltelton Gaoi. Sergeant liyau stated that tho accused had been undergoing a sentcnco of seven days' imprisonment, which expired yesterday. After leaving tho gaoler's office, Baker proceeded along the passage to tho front, and on his way ho was observed to pass something to a follow prisoner, an act contrary to tho regulations. It was found out that tho sum of ,ss. had been handed over. The accused had been in gaol previously, and should have been fully aware of tho gravoness of tho offence. Baker, who pleaded guilty, stated that 110 was unaware that ho was breaking the regulation?, and tho money passed to the prisoner was iu return for. a favour iu getting medicine for him. Tho Bench decided to convict, and a fine of £a, in default one month's imprisonment, was imposed.
