So ninny Ministerial candidates liavo been accusing Iho Opposition of offering the l.i.p. tenants a bribe of' four or five millions. Hint it may be well to show yet again what, Jlj. Masscy iloos propose. The extract is from (ho "Timnru Herald's" report of his speech-at that town: "Mr. Masscy outlined iho policy of tho Opposition on rim land qiic&tkm, emphasising the point that they would give Ihe freehold, a.n:l put money obtained from tho sale of the 909 years' lease for tho purchase of other lands for closer settlement. As the State had no further clnim on these leases it was surely a business proposition to sell them and nso the money for acquiring other land. The law of tlio country said that the goodwill and tho improvements belonged to tho settler. What tlicn was left to the State? Nothing but the original value. If an actuary or any other person could demonstrate to hini tlwt the Slate had any more interest in a !)9!) years' lwiso thaii the origiual value ho would admit that he was wrong. Tho Opposition did not want a cent for the State that belonged to the settler, nor did they want to givo a cent to the settler that belonged to the State: they simply desired to give the freehold and a fair deal. (Applause.) In 99 out of every 100 cases it would bo found that what was !>est for the settler was tat also for the State, and they were convinced that it was best to allow a man to have a holding which ho could call his own."
