LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.

PARAPARAUMU HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. Sir, —In your issue of tho 18th instant there appeared a loiter under the nom do plumo of "Anglican" regarding tho formation of tho Paraparaumu and District Horticultural and Industrial Society. •Now, sir, an anonymous letter is seldom worth taking any notice of, but in this case it is so full of mistakes and inaccuracies that I feel an explanation is necessary. In September last the Anglican Church was tho promoter of tho first hoiitcultural and industrial show over held ill Paraparaumu, and a great success it was, so much so, that a public meeting was called to discuss tho question as" to ■ whether it should form a society, and' carry on tho good ,work. If "Anglican" had taken tho trouble to attend that meeting, ho could thero havo objected instead of rushing into print in the foolish manner ho is now doing. Ho would have learned that tho name of the society is tho Paraparaumu and District Horticultural and Industrial Society. This includes Keikiorangi, Waikanae, Paraparaumu, and Paekakariki, so that the-Waikanae gentleman first nominated was quite eligible for the office of president. "Anglican" seems. to infer that the; society will not bo supported with exhibits from other denominations, but this I think is a spirit of intolerance which only exists in his distorted imagination, as such a thing has nover been seen', in this distriot. Harmony, I bolieve, will still continuo to reign, as the onlydiscordant note has been struck by "Anglican" himself, and even he, I hope, ■will be strung np to concert (or rather society) pitch, and will send along that donation of a fivor to help tho rapid march of progression in this favoured locality.—l ain, etc., CHARLES WHITING. Hon. Secretary Paraparaumu and District Horticultural and Industrial 'Society.
