ROWDIES AT PETONE MEETING.
SOON SILENCED. The appearance of the Rev. J. J. North at the monthly rally of tho Hntt NoLicense League, at.l'etone, last night attracted a crowd of both friendly and hostile people. It was soon apparent, from frequent interruptions from the back of tho ha-U during the musical portion of tho programme, that when Mr. North roso to speak he might have to facc somo hostiiitv, but the sequel proved otherwise. When tho larrikinism had manifested itself to 6uch an extent th/it a performer (Mr. It. House) declined to go on, tho president of the league (Rev. A. J. Scamer) rose, and, addressing tho rowdy element, said: "This is a put-up job, and, if the audience so desires, I will name the culprits." Tho uproar then quickly subsided, and Mr. Seamcr finished without further interruption. The Her. J. .T. North was given a very attentive and enthusiastic hearing all through 'his address, and the rally coneluded with tho singing of the wcll-lmown campaign song.
