« . DISTRICT ORDERS. District Orders by Colonel G. W, C. Chaytor (commanding tho Wellington Military District) include the following announcements: — . Tho following board has been appointed to superviso tho examination in "D" (for lieutenants of the New Zealand Staff Corps for promotion to captain), to bo held at the Manawatu Orderly Room at 10 a.m. .on December 5 and the following days:—Captain J. K. Cochrane, General Staff (president), Captain G. C. Hamilton (brigado major, Wellington Infantry Brigade), and Captain W. L. Robinson. Tho candidates are.—Lioiitenant C. 0. Powlcs, adjutant, 6th Mounted Rifles; Lieutenant W. C. Morrison, adjutant, jith Mounted Rifles; Lieutonant J. T. Bosworth, A.A. and Q.M.G., Wellington District; Lieutenant F. H. Lampen, adjutant, 11th Regiment; Lieutenant P. C. Hume, adjutant, 7th Regiment; Lieutenant P. W. Skelley, adjutant, 9th Regiment. The retirement of Captain J. E.. Barl-ti-op, 7th Regiment (Wellington l : West; Coast Rifles) lias been cancelled. "When an officer of tho Territorial Force reaches the age for retirement, tho O.C. regiment or unit will forward tho names to District Headquarters, and state definitely whether the officer is to bo rotired or retained for tho further period of two yoars under the provisions of General Regulations." "It should be clearly understood by nil chaplains of the Force now serving that the 'honorary rank'. mentioned in General Regulations is not to be taken as conferring military rank of any degree. Chaplains hold their appointments as 'chaplains to "the forces' only, and aro given status (but not rank) according as they are chaplains, fourth, third, second, and first-class. There are no such appointments as captain chaplains, major chaplains, etc.." The 3rd Battalion and sth Battalion Band, Masterton, have been amalgamated,, and in future will be tho regimental bund of tho Oth Regiment (Wellington East Coast Rifles).
Free railway passes will be issued to bona fide competitors iu tho naval and military tournament. to bo held at Palmerston North on December 30, 1911, and January 1, 1912. Tho senior officer or N.C.O. present on any train by which competitors are travelling will bo iu charge, and will bo held responsiblo that strict discipline is maintained. Applications for railway passes to bq'mado direct to the hon. secretary, Captain S. Jickell, Paltnerston North, not later than December 15, 1911.
