SUMMARY AND FORECAST. / Present indications are for high and squally westerly winds generally with a falling , barometer everywhere, but a rapid rise will probably take place within forty hours, with the winds veering to southerly. Cloudy and unBcttled weather anticipated, thunderstorms in parts, and rain is probable generally. The winds have backed by west to a northerly direction and increased penerally. Haze and cloudiness has spread, and rain lias fallen in parts, especially on the West Coast and southern districts of the South Island. The barometer is now low again in the south. D. 0. Feilding, November 17.—Fine morning; heavy electric etorm in afternoon; rainy outlook at night. Palmorston, November 17.—Beautifully fine morning; sudden change at noon, when still another thunderstorm parsed over. This was followed by heaYy rain for ecTcral hours. Heavy clonds are Btill hanging about. Shannon, November 17.—A very heavy thunderstorm visited this district at midday. Otaki, November 17.—A thunderstorm, accompanied by vivid lightning and heavy rajn, broke over hero at 11 a.m. Light rain followed. Rainfall to S a.m., .D2in. Jfasterton, November 17.—Eoporting at 6 o'clock to-night for the previous 24 hours, the Eev. A. Hodge [rave particulars as follow :—Temperature in shade, maximum 70.2deg., minimum «.6dcg., mean 59.9deg.; earth radiation, 35deg.; earth temperature (Ift. below ground), 55.5deg.; wind, fresh, S.W.; rain, 2 points; weather, warm morning, mild thunderstorm at midday, pleasant evening. Hastings, November 11.—To-day opened very cold, but, later, a warm wind sprang up. Groytown, November 17.—The weather is still windy, but coming from the northwest. Featherston, November 17.—Squally northwest wind.
