..NOTES AND COMMENTS. [By Giexcoe.] the Feilding Jockey Club's meeting close this evening with the club's secretary Mr. Edmund Qoodbehere Mue «"7> tAw'm™ fOr the Woot M"o District Jockey Club s summer- meeting clo=o tomorrow. . . _ .The locally-owned Royal Marino is doin? good work on the Trontharo trucks, and will cany the green jacket of his owner, at the forthcoming Feilding mectMr. E. J. horses-.Midnight Snn,, Ireland. Parable, and Boyal Scotch—passed tlirough Wellington yesterday on thei"r way homo from the C.J.C. liu'-eting. The two first-named were winners at tho meeting, but Parable and Koyal Scotch both ran badly. The latter seemed to bo backward, but may bo expected to improve. That good mare, Cruoinolla, who has failed to reproduce her best form sijice Toeing in Australia, was offered at auction on Tuesday last, but, tho reserve not being reached, she was passed in. Handicaps for tho Auckland Cup and Railway Handicap are duo to-dny. Mr. B. Craitford, of Melbourne, owner of Flavian, is nn nnlucky sportsman, in , so far'as his horse ran second in both tile Molbourno and ■ Caulfield Cups and tliitvl in a similar evont at Williamstowii. However, the solatium. in tho way of placo money was moro than he would receive, were ho to win several ordinary handicaps. It is not often that a jockey has his health honoured in champagne, but this has been tho casn with Ronald Cameron, who steered Tho Parisian in tlio Melbourne Cup. At tho settling over tho

event, tho owner, Mr. J. 1 , . Kirhy, entertained club members, and amongst tho I toasts proposed was that of tho rirlor. , Full Xn\\ wont wrong prior to (he Melbourne Cup meeting, and has had to bo spelled. Tho Chokeboro trainer, E. Cutis, who used to have Full Sail in his stable, lias a very high opiuion of tho horse, and is greatly surprised that ho has not done better for his now owner. C. Browne, w.ho used to ride at Ellerslie and surrounding meetings, had tho mount on Lord Nolan in this' year's Melbourne C'un. Lord Nolan won the raeo as far back as'lOOS, and, after doing a couplo of seasons at the stud, ho, like many others before- him, has failed to "come back.' ' A lot has been heard on the score of Miss Winsomc's presumed hard luck in losing the Great Northern Guineas (says the Auckland "Herald"). In a conversation with Mr. Walters, tho owner of General Latour, I learned that the cause ascribed for Miss Winsome catching the bay colt so quickly just abont the mile and a quarter post was duo to the latter sighting tho track worn across the running ground at that point, and which caused him to shorten his strido to jump what he took to bo an obstacle. But for this P. Brady, tho rider of Goneral Latour, assured Mr. Walters that Miss ■Winsome would.never-have got level with his mount. C. Browne, tho well-known horseman, who has been following his calling in Melbourno for tho past sis months, returned to Auckland by the Winimera on Sunday. He has been engaged to do the riding for T. A. stable at the forthcoming Takapuna meeting. The pony Mahinga returned to Auckland from Australia On Sunday last. Another horse brought back by the samo steamer was Monoform. At the . Ascot Stud Farm, Mangere, Orange and Blue (own sister to Wairiki)has ■ foaled a colt to tho, imported sire Penury.
