At _ tho cml sittings of the Supreme Court to-day, intimation was made that a settlement had been arrived at in the oct'on 'jfoug'it by Thomas W'Grath and a 11 3 \ Grata . of Onelmnga, against (.ho Auckland Tramways Company, claiming i'sol genera] damages, and JC3B. 7s. 6d. special damages for injuries. It was: allepcd that Mrs. M'Grath sustained per-' nmnent injury to. her left arm through a car being set in motion while she was alighting. The settlement included the payment of .£2OO and ,£SO costs.
THE BUTTER SUPPLY. Auckland, November 16. Tho butter supply continues to come in steadily. The Union Steam Ship Company have received a consignment of 3500 boxes to be taken by tho Makura, which leaves for Vancouver on November 24. > BUILDERS' CONFERENCE. Auckland, November 16. Tho Builders' Conference was continued to-day, when matters affecting tho trade generally were discussed in .committee. The most important part of tho conference is expected to coucludo to-morrow. CLERKS' UNION-FORMED. Auckland, November IG. Tho United Clerks' Union of Auckland lias been formed with fifty members. It will file demands at an early date for a week of 39 hours, 2s. fid. per"hour overtime, irrespective of ago or experieuce. wages from 15s. per week. for youths of sixteen years, to Cos. a week for men over 2.1 years, the former to receive tho same wages as men, juniors not to exceed a proportion of ono to throe seniors.

The Timarn Waterside Workers' Union invite shipping agents to confer, before November 25, on a new agreement regarding wages, hours, and other conditions. They ask Is. 9d., and 2s. Gd. per hour over'timo (B to 10 p.m.) for ordinary stevedoring work; 2s. 'and 3s for manure, cement, and coal work, and after 10 p.m. overtime at 3s. 6d. and 4s. The numberof tho gangs for different work is spedfied, and contents of slings, and straight: out preference on the usual conditions is asked. UNITARIAN HALL, Timaru, November 16. The foundation stone of the Unitarian Eall was laid to-day. A donation of JCI2OO by Mrs. George Wells gave a good start to tho finances.
.CHILD SEVERELY BURNED. Gore, November 10. The four-vear-old daughter of Mr. It. 31. Mwliu, of Jlataura, was severely burned aliout the body and left forearm through her nightdress catching firo while slip was standing in front of the fire. She is progressing satisfactorily. BRIEF MENTION. Gisbornc, November 16. A six-roomed house, owned by Mm Nicld, and occupied by Mrs. Ncilson, was destroyed by liro.
