METHODIST SYNOD.

The financial session of the Methodist Synod of the Wellington district, which met a.t N.ipier, commenced on Wednesday morning/ In addition to the ministors ' present on the previous day, twentyono lay representatives were in attendance. The session was mainly devoted to tho consideration of church properties in the district.

Mr. J. It. Randerson, of Island Bay, district secretary of Church properties, presented his annual report. Mr. Kanderson was heartily thanked for his most interesting mid complete report, and it. was unanimously recommended that he bo reappointed as district secretary. The report showed that, tho debts on the various properties had been reduced by over jcthio.

The foreign missionary, income for the district showed a very gratifying increase as compared with previous years. Thanks whs accorded to the Row J. G. Wheen (the recent foreign missionary deputation for New Zealand), the Sunday Schools for generous contributions to missions, and tho Wellington Ladies' Auxiliary.

A District: Committee for the consideration of ministers' stipends was set up, consisting of tho Rev. S. J. , Serpell 'MastertoiO, and Messrs. C. K. Daiiioll CMatlcrlon), J. 1,1.I ,1 . Baillio (Kketahuna), •I. J. Boagey (Pahiatua), i, Harding (Vvoodville), and Ordish (Carterton); convene],, Mr. Baillie.

The estimated income for home missions for the current year wiis reported to be .2450 10s.

The following grants for next year were recommended:—Norscwood, .£2O; Wellington Central Mission, .£175; Wellington South, ,£(i0; Johnsonville, .£35; Kketahiiiia, <£50; llannovirke, ,025; .Waipawa, iloO; Pahiatua, .£25, if probationer sent, and .£SO if married minister appointed; Gisborne, ,£-10 (for homo missionary).

The report, of tho Home Mission Executive was received. It was unanimously resolved that the Rev. T. G. Brooke be recommended for reappointment as general secretary. A desire was expressed that Mr. Brooke should bo the. deputation for Wellington district next year.

Reports wero received in connection with tho "N.Z. Methodist Times'' and Methodist Union.

The Rev. j. A. Lqchoro, of Gisborne, was elected as district representative, to conference, with the Rev. A. J. Seamer, of Petone, as substitute.

The. district, returns wero presented by the Rev. Mr. Lochorc. These returns showed an increase of 123 Church members and liO junior members, but a slight decrease in Sunday School scholars and Christian Endeavourcrs. It was decided to recommend that when less than 50 per cent, of the scholars are not attending school on any given day, the attendance be not reckoned in for tho average. A very inspiring ".Conversation on the Work of God" was held during thn evening, when several of the representatives spoke of successful work do;m in their circuits.

It wa.s decided that tho. next Synod be held at Danncvirke.

It was unanimously and enthusiastically resolved:—"That we urge all our memb?rs and adherents' to voto both for NoLiccnso and National Prohibition at tho forthcoming poll, and pledge ourselves to do all wo can to secure an overwhelming vote." Hearty votes of thanks were accorded to tho hosts and hostesses, Synod secretaries, reporters, and Management Committee.

Tho Wanganui District Methodist Synod this afternoon adopted a resolution by 18 votes to 5 expressing its disapproval of tho "No Temcre" decree. A resolution was also carried that the conference bring under the notice, of the Government (he urgent need of making provisiou for the registration of tho births and deaths of Maori people.
