ACCOUNTANT STUDENTS.
TUITION AT VICTORIA COLLEGE, Tbo matter of university lectures in accountancy was agaiu before the Victoria College Council nt its mooting last evening, when tho following letter from Mr. K. \Y. Hunt, secretary of the Society of Accountants was road:— "In reference to the correspondence that has passed between us regarding special tmlion at your oollcgo iu the subjects embraced by tho professorial examinations in accountancy, it has now been decided by my council to nudortakc. 'lo contribute a sum not exc-roding .Cl5O per annum, on tho conditions: "(1) That the sum contributed annually by the society shall be subject to a subsidy of not less than pound for pound from the Government. In reference to this clause iny council understands that the Government will probably contribute 245. for every £, but this must bo con. firmed. "(2) That such amount (including Govornment subsidy) slut.ll bo used solely for tlio purpose- of payment of lecturers in tho subjects comprised in the professorial examinations in accountancy. "(3) Th.it such lectures and instruction bo open to any student of accountancy, upon payment of tho usual prescribed fees. "It is especially dcMrod," concluded the letter, "that the instruction should be available as early as possible, a« students are already preparing for the examinations to bo hold in November, 1912." After discussion, the council resolved to accept the offer of the society, conditionally upon tho Government Mibsidy being forthcoming, and that the oiioslio'i of the appointment of lecturers in nceountnncy and commercial law be referred to tlm Finance Committee, with power to advertise for applications.
