At the Wellington Gas Company's premises Inst evening Mr. L. M. M'Kay, of the meter department, was made the recipient of a handsome present, the occasion being his approaching marriage. Mr. W. J. Stevens, of (ho office staff, made the presentation.

The Victoria College Council, at its meeting last evening, accepted with regret the resignation of Mr. Win. Gray of his appointment, an Lecturer on Education at the College. Among tho passengers who returned to Wellington by tho Warrimoo from Sydney last evening were Mr. J. Coyle, secretary of tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, and Mr. G. H. Bennett, of Palmerston North, who has been on a vi*it to the Old Country.
