VICTORIA COLLEGE.
MEETING OP THE COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Victoria Collego Council was held last evening, there being present: The chairman (Mr. C, Wilson) and Messrs. H. D. 8011, A. K. Meek, 11. F. Von llanst, H. 11. Ostler, C. Watson, T. R. Fleming, J. Graham, M.P., Dr. C. P. Knight, and the Eev. W. A. Evans. The statement of finances, which was adopted., disclosed a credit, balance of ,£1442 l'Ss. 2d., after providing for prospective payments amounting to .£993 2s. Id. . The Finance Committee reported that Mr. H. E. Evans, Jacob Joseph Scholar, had been certified by tho Professorial Board as having done substantial and original work in his subject, and recommended for tho first instalment of the scholarship due to him. Mr. G. Watson was appointed to act as tho council's representative, to be associated with tho Committee of Advice of tho Teachers' Training College, in connection with the appointment of principal io tho college, in succession to Mr. Win. Gray, who has Ijccu appointed principal of the Presbyterian Ladies' Collego at Melbourne. The principal of the Teachers' Trnining College is, ex officio, Lecturer on Education at Victoria College, and at. its last meeting (he Wellington Education Board, which makes tho appointment, invited the College Council to bo represented when the question of tho appointment came up for decision.
The council authorised a grant, of .£SO to Mr. Cotton, Lecturer on Geology, for hooks on geology, and also voted a sum of X"2O, for the purchase of n. set of the "Proceedings of the Royal Socioty of London," covering a period of forty years back.
