WORK AT THE DOCKYARDS.
Iho Admiralty have been oonsidorin" representations made by tho War Offico with regard to tho caso of members of tho Territorial Force who aro candidates for employment in Government establishments, such as tho Royal dockyards. At present snoh men aro handicapped by tho limitation placed on tho numbers who may be employed in the yards during tho timo that they are in tho force. This is a necessary limitation, for tho Royal dockyards could not afford to have many men in their employment who might be taken away at a moments notice for tho purpose of joining their units when the force is called out in timo of war—at tho very tin!© when they are most nerved in tho dockyards. The result is that men in the Territorial Force find it more difficult to obtain work in dockyard . towns than those who aro not serving in that force. It has been decided that, in order to make some compensation for the unavoidable disability thus imposed, men who hav© concluded their service in the Territorial Force and then appear ns candidates for employment in the dockyards shall be given a preference, other qualifications being criual.
