Oawilh, a well-known e/ilie.i----lor of Mav.lerf'iii, died at. bin rc-.idenco on Monday night, alter a brief illneps. Tho deceased, who wai born in Wellington some sixty years ago, was the, teconil son of Ihe bito Mr, Samuel Oawilh, for a long lime a ro-idcnl of Karori, and owner of the Metropolitan, Hotel, fie wa», attached to the, firm of Messrs. Izard and Bell, solicitors, in the 'seventies, and started his profession in Maslcrton about 1870. lie married a daughter of the late Mr. li, I'. I'erry, one of the early settlers of Masterton. The Rov. Father mils, S.M., of Blenheim, formerly of Leeston, has been appointed Vicar-General of tho diocese of Christclmrcb and Hector of St. Mary's Parish, Christcliurch North,.—Press Association. The Rev. E. H. Pearec, M.A., vicar of Christ Church, Newgate Street, has been appointed a canon of Westminster. Mr. I'earce was born in London in 1865, and was educated at Christ's Hospital \\A at St. Peter's College, Cambridge, of which lie was a Classical Scholar and Choral Exhibitioner. He graduated in 1887 in the first division of the second class of the Classical Tripos, and was placed in the second class of the Theological Tripos in the following year. Ho was ordained in 1889, and became a Master at the South-Kastern College, Ramsgate, and in 18i)l was appointed an Assistant Master at Christ's Hospital. Ho is the author, of several books, including "Tho Annals of Christ's Hospital," and is generally supposed to be the ecclesiastical adviser of Printing House Square.
