During the high wind which prevailed to-day a carpenter working on a new building in Rangitikei Street met with a rather severo accident. The wind dislodged a large piece of timber 'from tho roof, and this struck him on the head, inflicting a scalp wound. Mr. Hugh Akers, of Linton, has just shorn one of the Romney ewes which he had at the Palmerston "Show, tho fleece turning_the scale at 351b. Mr. E. W. Brown convened a meeting of flaxiuillers yesterday to discuss tho question of converting flax rcfuso into brown paper. After discussion a committee was appointed to collect information on tho matter, and report to a further meeting. The Palmerston Workin? Men's Club has donated five guineas to the fund which is being raised- to provido lifesaving appliances at Poxton Heads. Thomson, S.M.. gave reserved judgment iu the case in which Josenh Wilcox and his wife sued Joseph Nathan and Co. for ,C7fi Bs., as compensation, alleged to have been due for damages caused to n, sect'nn of not quite an acre in area by the pollution of a stream. Judgment was given foT M 3s. Gd., with court costs lis., and solicitor's fee £1 Gs. Each of the parties were ordered to nay their own witnesses' expenses and other court .fees..
