PROVINCIAL CENTRES.
(From Our Special Correspondents.) _$_ SHANNON. Messrs. Smith, M'E!dov.-noy, and Morris, Victoria College graduates, addressed an open-air meeting on Saturday night l.n front of the Post Office on No-License. Mr. A. Saunders presided. Mr. AV. Dibble, of tho Agricultural Department addressed a largely-attended meeting of farmers in Stephenson's Hall on Monday night. The first part of the lecture was devoted to the preparation of ensilage and, in the latter part of the evening, the lecturer dealt mainly with the advantages of top-dressing. Mr. Dibble was very closely followed by tho*e present, ami hod to answer .a_ largo unmoor of questions. On the motion of Mr. L. Law, who presided, the instructor was accorded a hearty round of applause.
CARTERTON. A collection was taken up by tlic Carterton Brass Band after a musical performance "in High Street on Saturday evening, and realised JC3 2s. lOd. On tho bowling green on .Saturday afternoon, in tho soini-final of the singles tournament, ithich was left unfinished last season, H. Nielson beat D. Hall. The annual meeting of the Wairarapa. Horticultural and Industrial Society, was held at. Carterton on Saturday, Mr. A. Booth, president, being in the chair. Officers were elected as follow:—Patron, Mr. W. C. Booth, Saycr, Burnett; secretary and treasurer, Mr. W.Downard; auditor, Mr. J. Moncrielt.
