The South Club's Lot. Tho Wellington South Club wrote that at a special general meeting on No\cuibor 8, hold lor too purpose nl' considering the advisability or otherwise oi contiiiuiiiß the club in face of its present condition, Ijoth with respect to membership and financially, it had been resolved to inform the association that unless they allorded tho club some immediate relict it would bo compelled to withdraw from the association. Tho communication continued: "Tho position is that the club, with its small membership, cannot sec its way to undcrtako the liability of tho estimated amount of iSI that will bo payablo to tho association this, season if we run two teams. Wo liavo dono our best to increase, our membership, but the expense of playing cricket under the association is so great- that wo liavo found.it impossible to induto numbers of cricketers in- our district to join the club, as so much cheaper cricket can be obtained on the various grounds in the district." Mr. Luckie moved that tho association should reply informing tho club that, pending a special general meeting which is to ba hold on Sovenibor 28, at which a proposal to give the club relief is to Ik considered, the association could take no further action.
Is South Acting Fairly? Mr. Crombie: They arc not playing very fairly in the matter. At (heir meeting the other night they spoke of the association threatening them. They tay that quite unfairly. Mr. Luckie characterised, some of the eiation attempting to extort money from the club. Wo did not attempt anything of the kind. We only charged them the same as any other club. Mr. ifickcy remarked that one member at the 'South Club mooting, who had "said something similar to that," had been a. member of the association for years. Mr. Leckie characterised some, of the things which were, said about the association as monstrous. Proceeding, ho stated that, on the question of whether or not members of the South Club could play for other clubs, there was only one. answer. South's delegate must, have known that such could not bo allowed without an alteration of the rules of ihe association. Mr. Hickey: Their position is largely duo to the cries, of "stinking fish" which come from their own camp. Mr. Vance': Wo . have given them the largest district in Wellington, and it is their own fault if they cannot get members. Mr. Luckie agreed -with this observation. Mr. M'Kenzie said that, in the South district, there were recreation grounds Where '■ the. young players could get matches'.at their doors almost, and that was. one !of the reasons why the club's membership was not. large. The resolution was carried. Other Business. The 'Karon Club asked for an extension of time in which to collect their subscriptions. The association decided to take 110 action at present. The Wellington East Club informed the association that, owimj to a shortage of active members, it had decided to withdraw tho third-class team from tho com-: petitions: The association agreed. Selection Committee: Messrs. Blatnires, Blacldcck, and Tucker ■were elected a Selection Committee. Mr, Dobson's Position. Mr. D. M'Konzic made a personal explanation. He had stated at the previous meeting, in the discussion over the postponement of matches at the Basin Reserve, that Saunders had teen told by the custodian of the Basin Reserve: "You have got to knock oft work on that ground j my boss says you must not work." In making that statement, Mr. M'Konzio had believed it to be true, but ho had since been assured by Mr. Dobson that all Mr. Dobson had said to Saunders was: "I. have just had word from the Town Hall that all matches on the city reserves are off." Mr. M'lvenzie said that he had no desire to do any injury to Mr. Dobson in his official position, and therefore mado Ins explanation to show that he did not desire such an impression to get abroad. City Council's Attitude. The secretary reported that he had been informed by the town clerk that all futiiro applications for (he use of the Basin Rcservo for dates other than those expressly agreed upon by the Cricket Association and the amateur athletic bodies will be referred to the association before being dealt with by the Reserves Committee; also, that all future questions as to the fitness of the Basin for play on Saturdays will be referred to the association.
