SALVATION ARMY INSTITUTIONS.
VISITED BY THE GOVERNOR. (By Telegraph— Press Association.) Christchurch, November 13. His Excellency tho Governor and Lady Islington spent about an hour and a half this morning visiting the Salvation Army's institutions in Christchurch. They were accompanied by Brigadier Albiston, and lirst of all motored to the Prison Gate Brigade Home at Addinglon, where there are at present thirty men. Their Excellencies wero shown ovei tlip buildings nnd workshops, and displayed much interest in the affairs of the home, making inquiries from the officers in regard to (he methods adopted and the results nf the Army's efforts. They were especially interested in the industries carried on there, notably tho mat-making, which was in operation at the time of the visit. Large numbers of door mats are made by inmates of the home, and these liavo established such a high reputation that there is a demand for them in many parts of the Dominion. This morning Lord and Lady Islington were shown a small stick that is on hand, demonstrating the quality of tho finished article, containing a coloured device or letters. Later on their Excellencies motored to tho I!e»cue Home in Papanui Road, St. Albans, and then to the Maternity Home in Bealey Avenue, where they spent some time. At the conclusion of the visit his Excellency expressed to Brigadier Albislon the gratification tlu visit hail given him and Lady Islington, and complimented flic brigadier and his officers on the way in which tho institutions ore conductcd.
