Dr. Mawson is still ,£9OOO short of the sum required for his Antarctic expedition. Tho total amount promised, including stores, amounts to a little over JiiOfiW. Dr. Mawson, speaking at a Royal Society reception, said ho had not any great anxiety over the deficit, because he thought that certain States which had not yet contributed would do bo when they 6aw what good : work was being dono. At a farewell dinner to the members of tho Japanese Antarctic expedition, the Japanese Vice-Consul, replying (o tho toast "Success to tho Japanese Expedition," referred to tho brotherhood of science, which made no discrimination regarding race or colour. All had one Gom'mon aim—the '.advancement of humanity.
