HOUSE RENTS.
INQUIRY IN SYDNEY. By l'clecraiih—Press Association—Copyright (Hec. November 9, 8.55 p.m.) Sydney, November 9. The sittings of the Special Committee appointed to inquire into the raising of rents commenced to-day. A witness declared that ho was burnt out, and was compelled to take the iirst liotiso available; seeing bis predicament the landlord raised the rent from 9s. to 155.; the tenant etfccled repairs at his own expense, when the rent was raised to 17s. The house was not worth moro limit .£l5O. Other witnesses stated that it wns impossible to get a houso at a fair rental.
