Sir George Reid (High Commissioner of tho Commonwealth), in a letter to tho newspapers, contradicts a pamphlet circulated in Great Britain with tho intention of discouraging emigrants to Australia and Now Zealand, by alleging that conscription is enforced on all males between twclvo anc' fifty-five years of age. Sir George Ilcid explains the general principles of the defence schemes, and states that it is supremely ridiculous to describe it as conscript iou.
