BEATING THE GUARD.

Sir, —As a. daily traveller on tho Hutt line, I wish through your columns to call tho attention of tho railway authorities to a most unfair practice -which 'has Increased rapiilly of late. I mean tho lmbit of second-class passengers riding in. Iti st.(,'lass carriages when thero is plenty of seroad room available., Byery evening train there tire peoplo who watch tho guard, and on leaving Ngahaurunga. calmly outer into "first" having paid "second"-fare. This is-decidedly- a practice which is worth checking, even from tho revenue point of view. Should thero bo no alteration, I propose travelling second. - A plain-clothes inspector could easily- remedy this with tho minimum of trouble.—l a,n '^' s HOLDER.
