Tho attendance had been lowered by the show week, and a certain amount of sickness among tho children, none or which, however, was of a serious nature. Tho chairman and Messrs. A. E. Clausen J. Swallow were appointed a. sub-eommittec to undertake neccssary repairs to the tennis courts and cricket 1^ C J' It was reported that a number of tho scholars had competed in the school classcs at the recent A. and P. 6iiow, nnd had secured a good share of the prizes. A considerable amount of took place on the question of providing a swimming bath for . the school. The chairman pointed out that, ol tht 71b child reii attending thu school, only 51 (39 boys nnd 12 girls) could swim, and they had in their minds the lamentable drowning of the little boy Dufresns, who could have saved himself if he had only been able to swim a few strokes. A suggestion was inade that tho three public schools should combine to provide a central swimming bath, but this did not find favour, as it was thought that there would be difficulties in connection with tho control of tho bath. Tho chairman estimated that tho cost of a suitable bath would bo between <£300 and .£4OO, nnd he did not anticipate that there would be great difficulty in financing this, as they would receivo a certain amount of capitation for the purpose from tho Education Department. Eventually a committee, comprising tho chairman, and Messrs. G. Allman, A. Pickering, and' C. Frascr, was set up to go into the matter. . The report to bo submitted to tho annual meeting of members of tho ALinawatu Athletic Club to-morrow* evening, stahs that the past season was most successful from ail athletic point of view, though tho apathy of the public was to be deplored. The cljib. bad twenty-five active members, all ofir.whom bad taken part in sports gatherings all over tlve provincial district, and had been fairly successful. Tho season's points' prize had been won by Mr. D. Park. The' balance-sheet shows an amount on the credit side of £5 3s. 9d. Court Mannwatu, A.0.F., met last night, Bro. Ro-sanowski, P.C.R., in the chair. A scheme for consolidating the sick and _ funeral fund for the AVellington district was mentioned, and it was decided to postpone discussion till next meeting. It was reported that' several, members were on the sick list. The question of enlarging tho hall was discussed, and the Building Committee was instructed to report on the matter' 1 at next meeting. One member was admitted to tho court by clearance. The Coronation bazaar, in connection with St. Patrick's .Catholic Parish, continues to do good business. A concert programme is submitted each evening. A largo number of Palmerstonians left yesterday on their way to the AVaiknto show. An effort is to be set in motion to secure special stock and passenger trains between Palmerston nnd AVaikato for next year, the A. and P. associations of these parts moving -in the matter. St. John Ambulance Nursing Guild held its monthly meeting in tho Mayor's room last evening. Nurse Lonergan reported that forty-seven visits had been paid to patients during the four weeks, and there were five fresh cases. The nurse was granted two weeks' leave of ibsence. Examinations for New Zealand University degrees commenced • vesterday in tho. Municipal Hnll, under the supervision of Jrrs. H. C. Mellsop.
