If the singers of to-day do not as a rule reach the same perfection that so many singers of the past achieved, it is hrpcly because they do not work for it as they did in those days. At the present time singers arc perhaps more intelligent' in grasping theories of tone production and there aro more theories to grasp, but they only dally with these for a while and lons before titer havo Kiven them a fair chance to become workin;,' factors in establishing a good automatic vocal action they aro off on a new tack—experimenting with something else. The restlessness of the age, the desire for fruition without labour, the belief Hint the goal can be readied by a short cut, is the bane of our art students to-day-Clara Kathleen Kogers.
The common drinking cup is to bo abolished in New York City, in public places and in hotels. Bubble fountains are to take its place in the. parte and streets, and individual glasses in the hotels. The next reform in this direction should require drinking glasses at soda fountains to bo rcaliy cleansed after use, not simply rinsed in a perfunctory way.
