THAT TE HORO MEETING.
Sir,—Knowing that your valuable papei has a large circulation up this way, I think it is only quite right to reply to your Otaki correspondents notes re the meeting of ratepayers held at Te Horo, as they are rather misleading, -as there were only eighteen ratepayers present out of close on 200 on the roll. To give your readers an idea of how the meeting"was represented: Thero wero three from Reikiorangi, two from Waikahae, three from Otaki, leaving ten at the most from To Horo, of whom six of that number (To Horo) were conveners. Now, Sir, I, ns one, who was present, could see it was a trap to get n candidate who had ■ announced his intention of standing for the' county to pull out or otherwise push him out of the running. Tho latter they did, as I will show you by the voting: G. Catley, 15 votes; E. Allen, 2 votes; informal, 1 vote: total, 18. The speeches wero chiefly in tlio style of "if we had not been defeated before," or "if we are elected this time," etc. In conclusion, Mr. Editor, it is rumoured that if the two members (who these fifteen ratepayers promised their support) are elected, that they aro going to try and saddle us with more rates for a road up the Otaki River. If this is tho case, no wonder they are anxious to, see Mr. Allen withdraw. Now, Sir, that is a fair report of the meting, and fair play is bonny play,—l am, etc.. ONE WHO WAS PRESENT.
