llYom Our Special Correspondent.) Masterton, November 2. Tho health of Mr. A. W. Hogg, M.P., is improving. Ho has taken the Town Hall for November 13, and it is hoped that his health will be sufficiently restored to enable him to give an address on that day. A representative of the Carpenters' and Joiners' Union, of Wellington, is at present in Masterton, and is endeavouring to form a branch of the union here.
His Grace Archbishop Redwood conducted a Confirmation service in St. Patrick's Church yesterday morning, over fifty candidates being presented.
Mr. G. R. Sykes, one of tho Opposition candidates in this electorate, addressed a meeting of about 150 electors in the Town Hall last evening. Ho was well received, and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Tho Mayor presided.
Mr. A. Crooke. S.M., who is relieving Mr. L. G. Reid, S.M., held a civil sitting of tho Magistrate's Court this morning. The list was a very light one. During the month of October twentytwo patients were admitted to the Masterton Hospital, and twenty-four discharged. Thero are at present fifteen patients in the institution. A conference was held in Masterton yesterday of delegates from the Masterton and Wellington Centres of th© New Zenland Athletic Union, for the purposo of considering tho advisability of the amalgamation of the two centres, with tho headquarters at Masterton. The proposal was generally favoured. The Wellington delegate (Mr. Melville Ford) will placo the matter before his union at an early date.
An effort is to be made to form a branch of the Sports Protection League in this district.
Mr. A. J. Percy intends becoming a candidate for the To Whiti Riding of tho Masterton County Council.
Tho following have been returned unopposed as members of the Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, representing the County Council Messrs It. F. Beetham, A. J. Speedy, Hugh Mori:,on. A. D. M'l.eod, William Fisher, It. G. Welch, S. Bolton, 11. Cornelius, J. Dawson, and F. W. Kinnenr. Messrs. G. T. Bonnett and li. S. Yc-lverton have been nominated for tho representation of tht combined district of Maxtinborough anid Featherstoa.
