Sir Joseph Ward will probably leave Wellington for tho south to-morrow night. Tlio Hon. J. A. Millar is expected to leave for tho south on Saturday or Holiday. Sir John Findlay is at Auckland to-day, the Hon. T. Mackenzie is iii Taranaki, and the Hon. 1). Buddo is in Christchurcji. The Hon. R. M'Kenzie, who has been confined to his house by an attack of influenza, is reported to be rather better. Sir Jas. Carroll (Native Minister) is in town to-day. Ho is to deliver a political address at Levin on Monday evening. The Hon. A. T. A'gata leaves Napier to-day lor Port Aivaiiui, north of Uisborne. Mr. A. G. Anderson, artist, and hon. secretary of the Wellington Lacrosse Association, is at present a patient in the Wellington District Hospital suffering from spinal (rouble. 110 is making good progress towards recovery. Mr. James Pearce, of Pahautanui, announces his candidature for tho Horokiivi Riding of tho Hutt County Council. Mr. Pearce is a very old settler in the district, and has now the leisure jo attend to tho duties of a county councillor. He was for about twelve years chairman of tho Pahautanni School Committee, for over five .years chairman of tho Pahautanni Domain .Hoard, and was chairman of the first branch of tho Farmers' Union formed at Pahautanni; and the district's delegate at several conferences.
Mr. J. Hannn, M.P. for Invercargill, left Wellington for his constituency oil Wednesday evening.
Mnjor T. V. Sheperd, Sergeant-at-Arms in (ho House of Representatives, who has been spending a brief holiday in Nelson, left 'Wellington for Auckland yesterday.
The death, occurred on Wednesday night of Mr. Thomas 13. Baylis, of 1G Stoke Street, Newtown. The deceased, who had been ill fur a long time, arrived in New Zealand from London by the ship ITomrah in 187G, and has resided in Wellington over since. For twenty years lie was a member of the Wellington Volunteer Fire Brigade. Ho leaves a widow and eight children (Mrs. Borrows, of Hnwera; Mrs. W. S. Ingram, Mrs. Riddick, Misses Edith, Ethel, and Madge Baylis, and Messrs. Arthur and Len. Baylis, all of Wellington).
Mr. J. Ogilvie, waterworks and sanitary officer of the Gouville Town Board, has been appointed sanitary inspector for the Borough of Wanganui (telegraphs our special correspondent). There were 98 applicants.
Mr. Win. Ritchie (representing Waitotnra county), and Messrs. E. E. Fletcher and A. Robinson (Wangnnni county) have been elected unopposed to represent their respective counties on the Wnnganui Hospital Board.—Special correspondent.
Mr. D. M. Graham, who has been manager of tho Mastcrtou branch of (ho Bank of Australasia for tho past six years, has resigned his position in order to take over the management of tho "Wairarapa Daily Times." Mi. I{. W. Robson, who lias been managing-editor during tho lost fifteen months, will continue to act as editor. Mr. Graham will enter upon his duties in about a fortnight's tiuie.
