FATAL AFFAIR IN THE STREET.

A man named George Guntcr (lied in the Hospital at 3 p.m. yesterday, allegedly as a result of injuries received iri some sort of sculFlo which occurred on Tuesday fit 10.30 p.m. near the intersection.of Manners Street and Willis Street. The available particulars arc meagre, but the police have information Unit wmieone .struck (iunter, knocking him down, and that, in fulling, lie muck his he.-ul against the windowsill of the shop occupied bv '.Mr. l'errett, clicir.ist. disabled by tiis injury, Gunter was ta'.<,;n to the Hospital, where, as stated, he died yesterday afternoon. A post-mortem -\\- uminction is to be made, and an inquest will be held at the Hospital at 2.30 p.m. to-day. (junior was a camp-cook and labourer who belonged to .Masterton, but, had lately lx;eii living at J'ongaroa. A chequetiook was found in his pocket, and following up this clue the [ - >!ico discovered that his mother is living at Masterton. Inspector Ellison communicated with her last night.
