Tho Wellington Harbour Board has notified that tho dredge Whakarire has. for the present, ceared work on Fateou shoal, Wellington Harbour, and will not resume until further notice. All that portion of tho channel lying to tho westward of tho shoal buoy is available for navigation by vessels drawing up to 9 6 feet of -water. Nerchium, s.s., of the Tyror licet, arrived at Wellington from Liverpool, via Auckland, yesterday morning. On the passage from Liverpool to Auckland she made good steaming time, the distance being cut out in 45 days. Tho average speed was 12 knots. The Ncrehana was to have left the Home port on September J, but, in common with other steamers, was held up by the strikers, and did not sail until three days later. The Napier Harbour Hoard has taken over the Wellington Harbour Board's dredge Whakariri, and it is intonded to dispatch her from Wellington to-morrow evening. Tho charter if? one of three months' duration, with the option of a. further three months if necessary. Captain 11. O'Neil is in charge of the Whakariri, and will have the following officers associated with him:—Chief, Mr. ,1. Spence; second, Mr. T. Forsvth; chief engineer, Mr. T. W. Martin; second, Jlr. 11. Rule; third, Mr. D. Eussoll; fourth. Jlr. H. Nielsen. She will carry a crew of 32 hands all told. Mr. D. An arrival at Port Chalmers from the Bluff on Saturday last was the New Zealand Shipping Company's Kaikoura.. After being laid up for a week or two, she will go into dock before being placed mi the Home loading berth. Owing to a heavy sea on the Patea. bar ■•id little water in tho river, the coastal steamer Aorere is detained inside, and it is not known when she will reach Wellington. Tho Wairau is detained at Wαnganui under similar conditions. Mr. Plank, engineer on board the auxiliary scow Masic, has returned from holiday leave, and Jlr. J. W. Weir, who has been in charge came ashore yesterday. The Magic is expected to leave Wellington for Grsborno on Friday. Mr. Thompson, late purser of the Aorangi, is to join the Tarawera in a similar position at Wellington to-morrow. Mr. on the Mararoa, and Mr. Familton, of the latter steamer, proceeds to Sydney on Friday to rejoin the Wakatipu. \ow en route from Australian ports for Home, the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Waimate left Albany for Durban on October 26. The Poherua will not arrive at Wellington from Greymouth until to-morrow. Arahura, from over-Strait points of call, is expected to reako Wellington about 6 o'clock this morning. lonic, H.M.S., is expected at Wellington from Lyttolton to-morrow. She will sail for London on Saturday. Captain Robertson, late chief officer of the Kittawa, has been appointed master of the tug Tcrawhili. vice Captain Ryan, who has joined tho Monowai as chief officer.
