Tho employers are objecting to the reduction of hours, owing to the scarcity of competent labour. The employers also asked for an, increase in apprentices. A eimilar dispute will bo heard in Palmcrston tomorrow. OTAGO IRRIGATION. Dunedin, October 30. Forty settlers in the Mount Ida Valley discussed for four hours tho Government's proposals to irrigate Vincent County. The majority agreed to accept tho scheme, conditional on tho charge not exceeding ten shillings per acre, and tho Government agreeing to forgo the charge for tho first year. It is understood that construction work will commence immediately.
