FRUITGROWERS. Nelson, October 31. The delegates to tho Fruitgrowers' Conference at Moiiicka arrived this morning and were tendered a civic welcome by the Mayor. Tho districts in the Dominion represented are: Auckland, Marl, borough, Canterbury, Manawatu, Hnwke's Bay, Wanganui, Waitemata, Nelson, and other places. Tho delegates havo gone on to Motueka, visiting the orchards en route. They lvegin business this afternoon. Tho lion. R. M'Kenzie, Minister for Works and member for Motucka, will attend tho conference. The Hon. T. Mackenzie, Minii-ter for Agri« culture, sent an apology. DOCK FOR GISBORNE? Gisborne, October 31. Tho Gisborno Harbour Board is con« sidoring tho question of building a dock for the convenience of shipping and to avoid the necessity of sending the dredge to Auckland for overhaul. FURNITURE TRADE. Wanganui. October 31. Mr. P. Hally, Conciliation Commissioner, sat yesterday to hear the furniture trade dispute- Practically all tho matters in dispute are settled, except the question of hours. Tho employers are objecting to the reduction of hours, owing to the scarcity of competent labour. The employers also asked for an, increase in apprentices. A eimilar dispute will bo heard in Palmcrston tomorrow. OTAGO IRRIGATION. Dunedin, October 30. Forty settlers in the Mount Ida Valley discussed for four hours tho Government's proposals to irrigate Vincent County. The majority agreed to accept tho scheme, conditional on tho charge not exceeding ten shillings per acre, and tho Government agreeing to forgo the charge for tho first year. It is understood that construction work will commence immediately.
