The Fcilding Cricket Club has decided lo nominate two teams for the Mauawatu competition for tho Barraud Cup, and not to enter any teams in the Guthrio Shield competition (the Foikling and district unions' contest).. Last year tho club hnd three teams in tho local competition. This is bad for country play, l>ll V. Rvod_ for J'almer.ston. The Kimbolton Sports Club has elected .Mr. T. Scohlc Cornish patron, and Mr. .1. A. Bailey president. Mr. Weeks is secretary. Tho sports will be on January ii. Tho Oroiia. Tennis Club is arranging matches wilh tho Aramoho, Kimbolton, Kongotoa, Terrace End, and Buunytkorpo Clubs.
OTAKI.
At a meeting of ratepayers of tho To Horo Hiding, held on Monday night, it was decided to support Messrs. G. A. Monk und Oeo. Catley as representatives at the coming county council elections, Mr. Eli Allen agreeing to withdraw in their favour. The contest will now bo between the two mentioned and tho nitting members—Messrs. Watson and Wimlley. From various parts of tho electorate, Mr. Byron Brown has received congratulations on his political fight, so far as has gone.
CARTERTON.
A number of local residents intend being present tit tho Manawatu show at Pajmcrston North on Friday. Business p-aople, of Cartcrton, are agitating for a municipal water-cart. A deputation, with this object in view, will wait upon the Borough Council on Tuesday night.
The Greyiown and Mangamairo Dairy Companies have each put in a now vat this year, the work being entrusted to Mr. A. J. Parton, of Garberton.
Miss Pull, postmistress at Clarevillc, has received a postcard by the first recognised atrial postal transit in the world. Tho mail is Csirried from London to Windsor. Tho postcard bears a. special date stomp, with the following words inscribed: "First United Kingdom Aerial Post."
The Rev. 8.. S. Hammond, of Australia, is announced to speak at Cartorton on Thursday next, under the auspices of the No-License League.
On Saturday the Wairampa South County Council decided to give tho ranger three months' notice.

A boy named C. Beard had his wrist severely hurt by the fire, brigade engine during practice this wsek. A "social" was tendered Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Hare by local Anglicans this week. Tho event was in connection with their leaving the district for Taranaki,
