MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
$ (By Teleeraph.—Special CorrcstonflenU Palmerston, October 31. The monthly meeting oi the Jlanawatu County Council was held yesterday. Present: Councillors J. G. Wilson (chairman), T. Masters, H. H. Hunt, G. Kendall, It. B. M'Kenzie, J. Uenson, and W. E. Barber. A communication was received from the Treasury, forwarding .£OO as subsidy on tho swimming baths at Glen Oroua. The Minister for Public Works wrote stating that the Mnngawhata bridges appeared to be quite sound except for a slight decay in one or two places, which could be repaired for .£2(i. "As tho Mnngawhata Eoad and the bridges iu question," wrote the Minister, "were handed over to the County Council in good order about six years ago, and as scarcely any money has been spent on the road by the local body since, .the case docs not appeal to me as one where Government assistance should be granted." The county treasurer (Mr. A. K. Drew) reported as follows:—Balances: General account, debit, <£24iG; loan account, debit balance, X 2171. Available for expenditure: Mount Stewart Riding, £26VVaitohi, .£4O; Rongotea, .£55 r Carnarvon, .£4a; Ivawakawa, £152; Awahou, .CUO- - .C 731. Over-spent: Sandon Riding, £12. It was decided to levy a special rate of 3-10 d. in the £1 upon the rateable property in the Makowhai special ratiii" district to pay the interest ou a loan of £050 lor drainage works.
