THE AUCKLAND STRIKE. (By Telccratih.—Press Association.) Auckland, October 31. A final settlement of the gener.il labourers' strike was brought about this afternoon at five o'clock, precisely oue week from tho date upon which it started. The men arc to resume work tomorrow morning on a basis of settlement drawn up and signed at a conference held in Hie forenoon between delegates from the Drainage Board, contractors, and the union. Tho terms agreed to are as follow:— (1) All the men now out on strike shall at onco a?reo to go back to their respective work; (2) tho Drainage Board shall modify Clause 3 of (lie general conditions in all future contracts so a.s to prohibit tho sub-letting of tunnelling, excavating, or in such concrete work to any individual or party of men on any of tho works under the jurisdiction of the Dir.mage Board, but no other form i>; sub-contracting shall bo in any v,:<y nfiteted; (If) the present contracts c liraimng such Clause 3 to remain, lut the contractors agree that they will ntt victimi« any workmen for refusing i.r declining to accept any such sub-oon-tracts, not insist upon any such worknun newiilinir any such 'sub-eontnet, and will, so far as they are able, uike Lack in their old positions any of tho raid men so out on strike for whom work is now available.
