Tho Earl of Minto (late Viceroy of India) was elected Lord Rector of Edinburgh University, defeating the Marquis of Crewe (Secretary of State for India). Mr. Birrell (Chief Secretary for Ireland) was elected Lord Rector of Glasgow University, defeating Lord Charles Bcrcsford, M.P.
