FATALITY FEARED. (By 'l'olcernph.-Special Correspondents Palmcrston, October 29. What appears to be another lamentablo drowning accident occurred yesterday about noon. Two brothers named Dti. resiie, sons of Jlr. A. H. A driver named Ralph Fraler, in th 4 employ of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, sustained a ixia fracture of the leg while carrying a bag ot manure at Taratahi to-day. Ho showed groat pluck -after tho accident, and succeeded in unharnessing tho three horses which he was driving, and tying them to a fence. Mr. M'Lauchlin, a married man, about 55 years of age, residing in Holloway Itoad, was admitted to tho Hospital between midnight and ono o'clock this morning sulfering from a severe cut in tho head,_ tho result of a fall occasioned by his being seized with a fit, an ailment to which ho is subject. A man named Arthur Hickey was found dead on the railway line at Tuakau. Ho had evidently been run over by the Main Trunk train last night. Tho body was terribly mutilated. NARROW ESCAPE. Oamaru, October 28. A young man driving a butcher's van had a narrow escapo near Georgetown this morning. When noaring tho railway crossing ho was unable to hold tha horse, which bounded across the rails in front of a train. The engine caught the back of the cart, badly smashing it, and broke the horse's leg. The driver miraculously escaped with a few bruises.

DROWNED IN THE TURAKINA. Marton, October 29. Mr. F. Schwass, farmer of Turakina Vnlley, was drowned in the Turakina River on Saturday. lie was driving across in a dray, which capsized. His companion drifted to some overhanging willows, and was rescued. The hono was drowned. So far, Mr. Schwass'a body has not been recovered. OCCURRENCE AT FRENCH PASS. SURVEYOR SERIOUSLY HURT.
