4 ANNUAL MEETING OF THE WKLw LINGTON BRANCH. Tho annual meeting of the Wellington branch of tho Now Zealand Society of Accountants was held at the Chamber of Commerce last evening:, Mr. A. T. Clark presiding. There was an attendance of about 20 members. Tho annual report of (he Executive Committee slated that tho branch - was formally inaugurated iu November last. At its first meeting the committee elected Mr. A. T. Clark as chairman, and appointed Mr. E. W. Hunt as secretary, at a remuneration of .£25 per annum. The question of securing permanent quarters for tho use of the branch was considered, a sub-committeo was appointed to report on the matter, nnd after much negotiation it was decided that, after conferring with the Executivo Committee of the .society, the matter should bo held over pending consideration of tho general council ou tho question of head oflico accommodation. Tho council at its meeting last mouth approved of a scheme of head and branch office accommodation in Wellington, nnd the Executivo Committee was now negotiating for suitablo quarters. It is anticipated this matter will be definitely settled very shortly. Since June 30, tho council has, on tho recommendation of tho committee, made • tho following grants:—(a) A sum not exceeding .£2OO for tho use of tho branch for general purposes for the current year; (b) a maximum sum of .CSO for furnishing branch room; (c) a maximum sum of £75 for books for tho library. Tho statement of finances showed that the branch had .€24 15s. in hand. The report and balance-sheet wora adopted. Mr. D. M'Kay was elected auditor, nnd Mcssr.«. T. Forsyth, \Y. C. Harrington, R. Wilberfoss, and 11. A. Gold were elected to the committee. At the conclusion of tho business an interesting paper on tho subject of "Cooperative Banking" was read by Mr. J. B. Hobart.
