J.ndy Islington is to leave for Christchurch on Monday next, and his Excellency the Governor will follow on November 3. They will reside for two months at tho residence of Mr. A. E. G. Khodes, of Christchurch.

Mr. John Korslmw, of the \Ycllin<»ton Gas Company's stuff, and for many years general secretary to tho Manchester Unity of Oddfellows, has returned from a trip to tho Old Country. Eo was accompanied by Mrs. Kershaw.

The services of Mr. Frank Lawry, M.P., as Chairman of tho Agricultural, Pastoral, and Stock Committco of tho House of Keprcsontatives were recognised in Parliament yesterday when it was directed that a letter from the Committco expressing appreciation of Mr. Lawry's good work during his 21 years of membership should be recorded in tho journals of the House. Complimentary speeches were made by several members and acknowledged by Mr. Lawry.

The Opposition Whips. Messrs. C. A. 0. Hardy and K. 11. Rhodes, mustered the party in their room yesterday to drink the health of their leader, Mr. W. F. Mnssey. The toast was proposed by j\lr. Hardy and honoured enthusiastically. After replying Mr. jrasscy handed to lir. Hardy a silver (lower vase, and to Mr. Rhodes a silver ink stand as tho parly's recognition of tho Whips' services.
