JOTTINGS FROM WANGANUI.
HARBOUR EMPOWERING BILL. 9 (By TelesraDh— Special Correspondent.) , Wanganui,' October 24. Great disappointment was felt here today when tho fate of the Harbour • Boards Empowering Bill became known, ' the general opinion being that the attitude of the country districts was unreasonable. Members of the Harbour Board say that the Bill will bo reintroduced at tho earliest possible moment next session, perhaps with a slight readjustment of boundaries, and that no effort will be spared tn push it through. Meanwhile the board has sufficient fund; - in hand to carry on work for at leist twelve months. _ Wanganui, October 25. A movement is afoot to form a branch ! > of tho Now Zealand Competitions Society in Wanstfnui, and a meeting for that pur- '• poso will be held in a day or two. Tho town members of the Harbom Board met this morning, to consider the !- position in regard to tho Empowering Bill proposal (made by Mr. Lang in the '• House), that separate polls should l>e hole: in each district, and that any district re- *"• jeeting tho loan should not bo rated. II was unanimously agreed that such c proposal could not bo accepted, but tin suggestion that the boundaries of th< !• board's rating area should bo fixed by c Royal Commission found more favour. II '. was decided, if the Bill is not carried, t( ask tho Government to set up a commis sion with that object, and that sucl: ijoundaries bo provided for in tho nen Bill.
